About

Dr Marlene M Reil

Our healthcare system divides people into parts — mind here, body there, medication somewhere else. You’re not living in parts. You’re living one life.

I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a psychologist, psychoanalytically trained and trained in a range of other therapeutic approaches. I’m interested in why people do what they do, not just what symptoms they’re showing.

I am a prescriber, and I was a psychotherapist first. So a medication visit with me isn’t a laundry list of standard questions. We’re going to talk about what’s actually going on in your life because that’s how we decide where the whole treatment goes, not just the medication.

Medication matters. It can quiet symptoms that are too loud to think through, and for some people it’s enough on its own. If you’re looking for ongoing psychotherapy and medication management, I can provide both. If addiction or chronic pain are part of the story, that is welcome in the room, too. One person. One relationship.

After thirty years, here’s what I’ve learned: people get real relief when they slow down and learn how their own minds work. You get more capable, so you can keep growing and evolving as time goes on, as you get to know yourself and become a friend to yourself.

I see adults across Massachusetts and New York via telehealth for depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use disorders, ADD, chronic pain and other mental health concerns.
